Isolation center at Kuwait University Hospital in Capital inaugurated

SANA'A November 16. 2022 (Saba) - Deputy Prime Minister for Services and Development Affairs Hussein Maqbuli, the Minister of Public Health and Population Taha al-Mutawakil, Deputy Director of the Office of the Presidency of the Republic Fahd al-Ezzi and the Mayor of the Capital Hammoud Ubbad on Wednesday inaugurated the isolation center at a Kuwait hospital University, as the first stage, at a cost of $ 2.1 million.

The first phase of the project included the rehabilitation of the first floor of the hospital’s new building for the isolation center and its equipment with medical equipment, funded by the German Development Bank and the implementation of the United Nations Office for Project Services “UNOPS” in coordination with the Supreme Council for Management and Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs while the Capital Sana'a, funded by the works Building and construction as the center includes 33 beds, and approximately 2,350 patients benefit from its services a year.

At the inauguration, Maqbuli stressed that the inauguration of this project is one of the achievements of the Ministry of Health and local authority of the capital.

He pointed out that such projects serve the infrastructure in the health sector, referring to the directives of the Supreme Political Council to find solutions for stalled projects, including the Kuwait Hospital building, which has been stalled for 24 years.

The Deputy Prime Minister for Services Affairs expressed his aspiration for the partners to contribute to the completion of the rest of the building and to find isolation centers in the provinces.

For his part, the Minister of Health considered the preparation, rehabilitation and restoration of the first phase of the new Kuwait Hospital building and the completion of the first floor an important achievement after stumbling for 24 years.

Al-Mutawakil stressed the need of the Yemeni people for such interventions at this stage, expressing his hope that the working organizations would follow the example of UNOPS and the German government in funding such facilities that serve patients, especially isolation centers.

He pointed out that intensive care, intermediate care and other qualitative departments serve a large segment of patients, indicating that care in the capital Sana'a and Yemen in general are very few, and the opening of this project today represents a quantum leap in this aspect.

The Minister of Health called on donors and relevant organizations to intervene to complete the entire Kuwait Hospital building to alleviate the suffering of patients, especially in light of the continued aggression and siege.
